Fr David Long

It was a great joy when Bishop Brian asked me to become Parish Priest of St. Alban's in September 2004.  Not only because it offered a new and exciting challenge but also because it offered an opportunity for me to return home.  St. Alban's is my home parish; it is where I was brought up and where I was ordained in 1984.  My parents still live in the parish.

I was born in Pensby in 1958.  We moved to Wallasey in 1961.  I was educated at St. Alban's Primary School, St. Hilda's Middle School and St. Mary's College.  I then went on to read for a Master of Theology Degree at St. Andrew's University.  I studied for the priesthood at the Venerable English College in Rome gaining a Licentiate in Fundamental Theology.  In more recent times I have gained a Masters Degree in Pastoral Studies through the Loyola Institute for Ministry in New Orleans.

Since ordination I have been an assistant priest at Our Lady and the Apostles, Stockport and St. Teresa's, Wilmslow.  I have served as Parish Priest at Holy Family, Pensby and Our Lady and St. Christopher's, Romiley before my appointment here at St. Alban's.  In addition to my parish responsibilites I have had a variety of other diocesan appointments including Vocation's Director, Chaplain to the newly ordained and Director of Clergy Appraisal.  I have done much work with the Education Service, particularly in parish and adult formation and I now seek to co-ordinate Theological Formation in the Diocese.
