John Roper 1963-1968

JOHN LESLIE ROPER: Son of John and Ann Roper, nee Rourke.  Born in Birkenhead on 20th April 1930. Educated at Cotton & Ushaw 1948-54.  Ordained by Bishop Murphy at St Joseph's, Birkenhead on 18th July 1954.

Curate: Shrewsbury Cathedral 1954; St Peter's, Hazel Grove 1954-63; St Alban's, Liscard 1963-68.  Parish Priest: St Mary's, Congleton 1968-75. St Mary's, Madeley 1975-78; St Patrick's, Wellington 1978-83.  Administrator Shrewsbury Cathedral 1983-93.  Here he showed himself to be a man of vision.  He re-ordered the Cathedral in accordance with the new liturgical laws.  He died on 15th October 1993 and is buried at Landican, Birkenhead.  He became a Canon in 1983.
