Bernard Hewitt 1949
BERNARD JOHN BUSCOT HEWITT: Son of Sidney Charles and Agnes Clare Hewitt, nee Buscot. Born in Birkenhead on 10th December 1907. Educated at Ushaw and while there was a minor professor. Ordained by Bishop Moriarty at St Alban's, Liscard on 28th June 1936.
Curate: St Alban's, Macclesfield 1936-39. In charge of St George, Whitchurch 1939. Curate: St Joseph's, Stockport 1939-49. In charge St Alban's, Liscard 1949. Parish Priest: St Luke's, Frodsham 1949-53; St Agnes, West Kirby 1953-82.
Retired to 17a Claremont Road, West Kirby and died on 14th December 1985. He is buried in Grange, West Kirby.
One of a few diocesan priests with a non-Catholic parent. His mother was the sister of Canon Buscot who wrote a history of Cotton College. He had poor health for many years but always remained very patient and cheerful and was very conscientious in the fulfilment of his duties. Author of 'History of West Kirby Parish' 1957, Supplement - 'West Kirby Parish History' 1958.
